A benefit poker run will be held on Saturday, April 1, to benefit a five-year-old girl.

Macie Goldman, of Fairview, has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia. She is receiving weekly treatments at Ochsner Children's Hospital in New Orleans. All proceeds from the poker run will help the family with travel expenses and any other costs that may occur throughout this terrible ordeal. Jimmy Moreland, an independent rider, and enthusiast said, "The family needs as much support as possible."

Wanda Moreland, Jimmy's wife, initially discovered Goleman's situation. Wanda works with a lady who knows Goleman's grandparents. Upon hearing this, Jimmy decided to organize a poker run to provide assistance to the family.

The way it works is participants can register at 9 a.m. at Chunky Monkey, 454 Pitkin Rd, Leesville. For each rider, the fee is $25, and $5 for each passenger. The group will take off from there at 10:45 a.m., making four stops along the way-- Tailgators, Backroads, American Legion 145, and Daiquiri Station, then end at the back at Tailgators.

At each stop, participants will receive one playing card. The best hand wins $200; the worst hand, $50.

After awards are handed out, there will be a gun raffle. Each ticket is three dollars or two for five dollars. They will hold a live auction with donated items from local businesses, such as homemade kids' rocking chairs, a children's recliner, Harley Davidson shirts, bandanas, gift cards for tattoos, flower shops, and more.

A group of Jimmy's friends will be playing live rock and country music. They will also be serving a five dollar plated lunch from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Those who do not participate in the poker run can still participate in all other aspects of the fund-raiser.
