The trophy case at FTCA has a couple of championship trophies when it comes to softball, but it has been a couple of years since they have claimed victory.

The Lady Patriots will look to return the winner’s circle this weekend in Welsh, taking on Bethel-Jennings in the Association of Christian Educators of Louisiana state tournament.

The Lady Patriots will take to the field at 1 p.m., hoping to win and get one more crack at Southwest-Lake Charles, a team which has been its nemesis over the last few years.

The ladies of Southwest-Lake Charles have had the number of the Lady Patriots over the past few years.

Southwest-Lake Charles has beaten the Lady Patriots in the state finals the last couple of years and have several wins over FTCA this year.

The Lady Patriots will look to the veteran leadership of coaches Frank Labby and Kathy King, along with solid play from Klaire Haymon, MaryGrace Camelin and Rebecca Evans.

Haymon is the two-time Most Valuable Player of the league and is a former Newcomer of the Year on the all-Vernon Parish team, while Camelin is a multiple-time all-state performer, as well as being the winning pitcher from the last championship won by the Lady Patriots.

Evans serves as the team’s leadoff hitter.

Other members of the team include Lacey Cole, Katie Harvey and Kaylee Fleshman, all a part of this year’s third-place winning Lady Patriot basketball team.
