This Saturday evening, one group of girls will show their willingness to fight cancer by raising money.

Team "Girls Fight Back" is raising money for Relay for Life, May 19, at the Vernon Parish Fairgrounds. This is their fifth year participating in the cause.

Relay for Life is a team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. Each event is 6-24 hours in length and each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. The point of doing it this way is that cancer patients do not get to stop because they're tired, and for one night, neither do their supporters.

Each team sets up a themed campsite at the event and continues their fundraising efforts by collecting donations for food, goods, games, and activities. This money will count towards their overall team fundraising goal.

On Saturday, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., the girls will be raising money at the Vernon Parish Courthouse in Leesville.

They will have a booth set up where people can come and give a $10 donation for a luminaire bag. At7 p.m., two cancer survivors will speak about their experience with cancer and why they think it is important to teach the girls about the importance of Relay for Life.

At 7:30 p.m. everyone will light up the luminary bags.
