Vernon Middle 6th graders in Amanda Wittenhagen's class created painted rocks and turned them in for the rock challenge.

The idea behind the contest is to beautify the area with vibrant colors, and beautiful artwork done by the area locals. There will be a total of five winning rocks.

Each First place rock from participating towns will get a Origami Owl Locket value $75.00. Each 2nd place rock from participating towns will get a $20 gift certificate  for Origami Owl. First and Second place rocks will be sent to First Lieutenant Joel Hargrave, who is serving in Afghanistan.

Rocks have been coming in steadily, and the paint studio in town is also planning a rock painting for this.

The process and location of Deridder’s Rock garden is in the process.

To enter the contest contact Tina Rollins Cormier 337-550-5065 or Susan Ann Stokes Slaydon.
