BECi was recently recognized for its outstanding safety performance at the annual meeting of the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives (ALEC) in Baton Rouge.

BECi General Manager Kevin Turner was on hand to receive a certificate and commemorative flag for the cooperative’s participation in the Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP).

According to Turner, the RESAP program was founded in 1967 in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of safety among rural electric cooperatives all across the country.

The peer review program is administered through a national network of job training and safety professionals who promote, educate and encourage employee and public safety.

To receive accreditation through the RESAP program, representatives conduct on-site inspections of cooperative facilities and review written safety policies and procedures.

“Safety is really a team effort,” Turner said. “It takes significant commitment on the part of the board, management, staff and employees to make safety an integral part of our daily operations. Our goal is that at the end of the day, everyone is able to go back home to their families.”

BECi was also presented the Louisiana Electric Cooperative Statewide Safety Trophy after being named the state’s top safety program last year. The trophy will be displayed at the cooperative’s headquarters in DeRidder.

BECi Safety Director Eddie Hanks received the trophy on behalf of the cooperative’s board, management and employees.
