An AutoZone store manager in Leesville was honored last month with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of employees who serve in the Louisiana National Guard and Reserves.

Brandon York was was nominated to receive the Patriot Award for being highly supportive of Sgt. 1st Class Travis McLaurin with the U.S. Army Reserve 3rd Battalion 289th Regiment. “We recently got called upon to go to Fort Hood for a year in support of current operations overseas,” McLaurin wrote in his nomination. “When I notified Brandon of my departure he immediately responded with, ‘It's no problem he hate to have to lose me for so long but whatever he can do to help me let him know.’"

York regularly called to check in on McLaurin, five hours away. “Whenever my wife or son would have questions concerning their vehicles I would reach out to Brandon

and he would personally look at them for me,” stated McLaurin. “Brandon's willingness to take the time to do things like that made it easier for me to focus on the mission I had in training our forces for war. I really feel Brandon has fostered in an environment at our location to where it's a second family, not just my part time job.”

The Patriot Award was created by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees.
