Mrs. Elize Howerton was born in Colfax, La. She is the daughter of the late Buck (Albert John) and Cora Tumminello. She is a 1956 graduate of Leesville High School and later attended the University of Maryland.
Elize married William B. Howerton in August of 1959 and supported him in his career with the United States Army. They were married for 57 years and they have 4 Children; William B. Howerton II, Jamalyn H. Graves, Trayce L. Snow and Jonathan E. Howerton. (All four of their children have served in the Armed Forces.) They have been blessed with 5 Grandsons and 1 Granddaughter.
Elize is a 30-year member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and is presently a member of the Ladies Circle, a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and a Lector. Elize attended 2 floral design schools one in Shreveport and on in Lafayette and has a license in Floral Design.
Elize is very involved in her community. She is the Chairman for the Vernon Parish Tourism Commission, Elize has been the Chairperson for Mayfest for years and a member of the Vernon parish arts council. She also helped establish the Downtown Historic District and is a past president for the Greater Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce. She has owned several businesses in the community.
In her free time Elize enjoys gardening, framing and floral design and spending time with her family.
Mr. Michael Reese was born in DeRidder, La. and is the son of Frank and Mildred Reese. He is a 1994 graduate of Leesville High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in finance and commercial banking in 1998 from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, serving as the President of the Student Government, a board member to the Louisiana Board of Regents, and the Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission.
He is involved in a number of business operations to include logistics, warehousing, commercial air charter and commercial real estate development. In 2006, Mr. Reese was one of the founders and Chairman of Fort Polk Progress, Inc., an organization that focuses on working with the region of Central and Southwest Louisiana, State of Louisiana and the Congressional Delegation to improve the quality of life for soldiers and their families and support the mission at Ft Polk.
He is a member of the Leesville Lions Club, Association of Defense Communities, where he was awarded with the 2016 Defense Community Leadership award, Association of the United States Army, Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, Beauregard Chamber of Commerce, Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, and serves on the Board of Directors of Merchants and Farmers Bank, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rapides Foundation (a $270mil public health foundation), the Board of the Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, a charter member of the Louisiana Governor’s Military Advisory Council, and a board member of the Gulf Coast Strategic Highway Coalition.
Michael is a member of St Michael’s Catholic Church. He and his wife Morgan Reese have a 9 year old son, Greyden and a 1 year old daughter, Harlow.
