Meteorologists have investigated and confirmed that a tornado touched down in Vernon Parish early Wednesday morning.

One home in the Cravens Community, a rural area just northwest of Pitkin, experienced significant damage from downed trees. No one was injured.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles the tornado occured around 3:48 a.m. as rain associated with a cold front moved across the region.

The tornado has been rated EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

During the weather event, meteorologists say determined winds were up to 105 miles-per-hour and the tornado grew, at its peak, to 350 yards wide.
