A derogatory message on a Pickering High School teacher's overhead screen allegedly popped up on Thursday afternoon. A photo of the message has been circulating and creating a stir ever since.
Vernon Parish School Board (VPSB) Assistant Superintendent Mike Kay was notified Thursday evening of the situation. “I planned to speak to the teacher this morning but he was out of town,” Kay said. He will try again on Monday morning.
In line with protocol, Kay said an investigation is being performed by the school board in order to discover if it was the teacher who wrote the message.
He emphasized that the contents of the message are decidedly not the stance of VPSB. “This is not in line with our stance and we will deal with it quickly,” Kay said. “We do not believe in this.”
The contents of the message are as follows:
“Welcome to Room 312. To the moronic, self obsessed ethnic who stole the mouse from the back computer: the fact that you do not know both your parents, and that the so called adults that are caring for you can not afford a five dollar part because they are too busy buying drugs and coring cigars at the Shop-Rite does not change the fact that you are nothing more than a two bit thief and a waste of carbon and oxygen.”
Superintendent James Williams responded saying, "The Vernon Parish School system does not condone or support this kind of rhetoric. These statements are certainly not the attitude or the beliefs of our school system.
"This, in no way, shall reflect our sociological and cultural attitude. It is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!"
Pickering High School Assistant Principal Eddie Thomas confirmed that the situation is being addressed but offered no further comment. Principal Dana Donaldson was unable to be reached for comment.
