The Pickering offense struggled to get rolling against a much improved Lake Charles College Prep team.

The Red Devils were shut out, losing 47-0 to the Charging Indians Thursday night in Lake Charles.

"I felt like we didn't perform," Pickering head coach Eddie Thomas said. "That team was pretty good. They were a lot better than I remembered them being last year. I have to do a better job of getting us ready to go into battle on the road. I don't think I had them ready for the competition we were about to face.

"They had speed and size at almost at position. Last year, they had a few guys, and this year, they had it everywhere."

Pickering unveiled its more spread out offense but is still working on the execution, recording 87 yards on offense in the game.

"We dropped a few balls with kids that we expect to make those plays," Thomas said. "We were missing assignments. I don't believe it is the scheme because when you watch it on film, the plays that we had were there. We just didn't execute."

College Prep went up 20-0 in the first quarter, scoring on two rushing touchdowns and a 73-yard touchdown pass.

"I don't think we were ready for the game," Thomas said. "We will be do a better job at getting ready for the contest. We had a practice on (Friday) and they were ready to work."

The Charging Indians added a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 33-0 lead in the halftime.

Lake Charles passed for a 41-yard touchdown and ran for another in the third quarter for the game's final scores.

Emanuel Mosley had all six catches for Pickering for 33 yards, and Mikey Hood led the Red Devils with 21 rushing yards.

Pickering takes on Lake Arthur at 7 p.m. Friday night at home.
