Last week Merchants and Farmers Bank held its 90th birthday party.

Founded in 1928, Merchants & Farmers Bank is one of Louisiana's oldest hometown banks and has grown to seven locations in Vernon and Calcasieu Parishes.

Most of the board members were in attendance for the event along with past and current workers and customers.

The bank was started when a group of citizens came together with $50,000. The bank has now grown to a reported 4.1 million.

“Its more than a bank its part of our parish,” said Buddy Leach, Chairman of the bank’s board.

During the program, the president honored three women who worked at the original bank when it was the only bank in town.

“As bankers, we always look to the future but today is a day to look back and be proud of where we came from.” said bank President Ken Hughes.
“From day one, our focus has always been to provide better banking through superior customer service. While the banking industry has changed dramatically over the 80 years we have been in business, our customer focus and commitment to service has not. And still today, all decisions are made with our customers' needs at the forefront, from designing our branches specifically to enhance our customer's banking experience to providing the latest banking services including online statements and bill pay.” says the Merchants and Farmers website.
