Rep. James K. Armes, III announced today his candidacy for State Senate in District 30 in the October 2019 election. He released the following statement regarding his announcement:

“I want you to know that I have very carefully given a lot of thought and consideration and have prayed about running or not running for Senator. The district encompasses all of Vernon and Beauregard and a large portion of Calcasieu Parish.

This is a very big responsibility. It is one not to take lightly. I have been encouraged by my friends and people that live in the district, from Vernon Parish to Westlake. Many people know that I lived in Westlake every summer. I attended McNeese State University and worked until I graduated with a degree in Horticulture & Botany.

For the last 11 years, I’ve had the honor of representing the citizens of Beauregard and Vernon Parishes and our major industry, Fort Polk in the Louisiana House of Representatives. As State Representative, I have worked diligently to ensure that the people and industry in District 30 are not forgotten.

I presently serve as Chairman of the Special Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs and am very involved with Fort Polk. I have been successful in obtaining over 1 million dollars from the State of Louisiana so that Fort Polk Progress can stay alive.

I also participate on the Fort Polk Progress Committee when called upon.

I have worked with governors and legislators from both political parties to find common ground for the good of our state and our community. I have many friends in the legislature from both parties and it is that bipartisan attitude that has served our district well. Each year, we face challenges to fund our budget and to prudently spend our tax dollars on the critical needs of our state. I have made sure we focused on our rural community needs such as rural hospitals, roads and infrastructure, educating our children, protecting TOPS, supporting our veterans and military, and creating a positive climate for small businesses and farmers.

Today, I announce my candidacy for State Senate, District 30 in the October 2019 election. I truly feel that my 11 years of leadership experience will help me to continue to make a positive impact in state government as your Senator. I ask you to consider my overall record, my non-partisan approach to getting things done and my passion for our people when making your choice for State Senator.”

Rep. James K. Armes, III was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in House District 30 in 2007 and was subsequently re-elected twice thereafter.
