Courtney Williams of DeRidder recently started a Facebook campaign to collect donations of formal dresses and suits, makeup, curling irons and accessories to help give people with special needs ages 14 and older experience a night at the prom.
Williams works for “Life at Home,” a service in DeRidder that helps residents of Vernon, Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes who are developmentally delayed lead more independent lives.
Williams will be taking some of her clients to dinner before the prom where she will then volunteer with a co-worker as a supervisor.
Night to Shine is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. The event is held one night each year that sees 655 churches around the world come together to host the event for approximately 100,000 guests who are invited to attend the celebration. This year the event will take place on Friday, February 8th from 6PM-9PM at Christ Community Church in Lake Charles.
They still need donations if you are willing to help. They need dresses in sizes from M-XXL or sizes 12-24, men's dress clothes size 34-32 and 36-34, any color of makeup, hair products and jewelry.
Anyone willing to help attendees be crowned king and queens of the prom are asked to donate what they can.
Donations can be dropped off at 736 N. Pine Street, DeRidder Monday - Thursday from 8AM-4PM. For more information, call (337)463-3595.
