PICKERING – In a year of growing pains, first-year head coach Caitlyn Gentry is seeing some bright spots from her Pickering squad.

The Lady Devils fell to Oakdale 45-28 Tuesday night at home to make their record 5-25.

"We showed a lot of growth," Gentry said. "I'm proud of my young ones that stepped up. I had two seventh graders that played a majority of the game, and I thought they did a fantastic job, as well as our senior."

Pickering has one senior on the team, Breanna Redden, who celebrated her senior night against Oakdale.

The Lady Warriors led 14-5 after the first quarter and extended the lead to double digits in the second. However, a pair of free throws from Redden made it 20-11 at the break.

Oakdale led 26-11 in the third quarter, but the Lady Devils went on a 6-0 run to get back into the game.

"That's been one good thing about this team: there's been no let up," Gentry said. "They play with a lot of heart and go after it until the buzzer sounds."

In the fourth quarter, Oakdale started to pull away, going up 20 with 2:10 to play to seal the win.

Redden led Pickering with 15 points in her final home game.

"This year has had its challenges, but it's honestly a great group of girls to coach," Gentry said. "I'm proud of every single of them. They gave their all to me this year, and it's been a year of growth because we're such a young team.

"They have a promising future."
