Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards visited Vernon Parish this week to attend a groundbreaking ceremony host by the Vernon Parish Police Jury.

The ceremony was a groundbreaking for the Vernon Parish/Fort Polk Parkway that will connect Highway 468 to highway 467.

This project has been in the works for years with the road being built in three parts.

The entire project, including water and sewage improvements along 467, has a price tag of $25 million. Gov. Edwards said that funding comes from Community Development Block Grant and Capital Outlay funding the state is committing to.

The Leesville Daily Leader will be writing a follow-up story next week to detail the many different parts of this project that have spanned many different years.
