The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its girls playoff brackets Monday afternoon, and multiple Vernon Parish schools are represented.
Anacoco was the only team to receive a first-round bye in the playoffs, and all games take place Thursday at 6 p.m.
No. 23 Leesville at No. 10 Assumption, 6 p.m. Feb. 14
The Lady Cats will aim for a first-round upset against Assumption. Leesville finished 12-17 to pick up the No. 23 seed while Assumption went 17-9 this season. The Lady Cats are led by Jairielle James and Jayla Burnett, and Leesville will have to get easy buckets in transition to pull off the upset.
No. 27 Rosepine at No. 6 Red River, 6 p.m., Feb. 14
Rosepine put together some wins at the end of the season to make it into the playoffs. The Lady Eagles will travel to Coushatta to take on the Lady Bulldogs. Red River is led by senior Makayia Hallmon who averaged 25.7 points a game this season, and Kaitlyn Antilley (13.1 ppg) and Ma'Kaila Lewis (10.2 ppg).
No. 17 Quitman at No. 16 Hornbeck, 6 p.m., Feb. 14
The Lady Hornets had a half point advantage in the Power Rankings to claim a home game against No. 17 Quitman. Hornbeck (14-19) will take on Quitman Thursday night, which actually had a better record at 15-13. The Hornets played a gauntlet of a district schedule to prepare for the postseason.
No. 28 Doyline at No. 5 Hicks, 6 p.m., Feb. 14
The Lady Pirates won four of its last five games and averaged 70 points a game during that run. Hicks, who made it to the state semifinals last season, features a balanced scoring attacking led by Lauren Quinn, Chloe Wilbanks and Rivers Day. The winner of Hicks and Doyline takes on the winner of Weston and Pitkin in the second round.
No. 21 Weston at No. 12 Pitkin, 6 p.m., Feb. 14
The Lady Tigers were knocked out of the first round last season, but a good regular season has them set up a postseason run. Pitkin finished the season 20-18, going through a rigorius district schedule. The Lady Tigers are led by Brilee Nolen, Shelby Lentz, Hannah LaCaze and Kylee Cook.
No. 2 Anacoco – bye
Anacoco will play the winner of No. 15 Monterey and No. 18 Oak Hill in the second round
No. 18 Simpson and No. 15 Evans, 6 p.m., Feb. 14
Evans went 2-1 against Simpson this season, winning the last two, as it finished the season 13-22. The Lady Broncos went 4-28 this year and are led by forward Ally Berry. The Lady Eagles are led by Jade Bonner, Enola Gollihugh and Madison Gollihugh. The winner will play No. 2 Atlanta in the second round.
