Vernon Parish School Board members heard Jeff Taylor of Taylor & Sons announce the VPSB March Employee of the Month.

Olivia Clouse, a  teacher at West Leesville Elementary was awarded a plaque for her achievement.

Clouse is in her first year of teaching in the Vernon Parish School District and she is a stand out teacher.

Karen Robertson, Principal at West Leesville Elementary said that in the short time Clouse has been at West Leesville she has been an amazing teacher. Her second-grade class has been ‘Class of the six weeks’ numerous times and Clouse has been “Teacher of the six weeks” a few times as well.

“She is an amazing and excellent educator and we are very proud of her” Robertson said.

Peers and coworkers of Clouse said that she is a wonderful teacher who has high energy. Clouse is described as being highly engaged with her students and she works hard to bring out the best in them. Her students excel academically and they are often recognized for it at the school level.

VPSB also recognized Sharon Owens as the PCAL Bus Driver of the Year. Owens drives for Hornbeck schools.

The process to select an awardee was explained to the board. PCAL recognizes that school bus drivers are responsible for transporting children safely to and from school. No matter the weather conditions or the traffic the driver’s performance on the road must be A+. Morris continued with school bus drivers help set the tone for childrens’ daily experiences. The driver is the first person and the last person the student will have contact with each day.

Nominees for the award are scored on five attributes: leadership; attitude; perseverance; student and parent relationships; and technical skill.

Raymond Jones, Principal of Hornbeck said that transportation is the backbone of Vernon Parish School Board and Ms. Owens embodies that.

“She is a wonderful lady, she is loyal to the school and she is loyal to Vernon Parish. The kids love her, the parents love her. She is very very nice to them and she gets them home safe every day” Jones said.

A very humbled Owens was awarded a plaque and a monogrammed jacket and said: “Sometimes it’s not easy but we do our job to the best of our ability”.
