Leesville’s MayFest is set to be an unforgettable event this year. The annual event brings food vendors, live music and tons of fun to downtown Leesville.
Entertaining the fans at MayFest this year will be none other than Nashville recording artist Glen Templeton. Templeton will be performing at 8 p.m. on May 3rd.
Templeton is a musician that blends classic with contemporary. In 2008 he was hand picked by Conway Twitty’s family to portray Conway in a traveling musical tribute to the late artist.
Twitty’s daughter Joni selected Templeton out of 20,000 other hopefuls. The experience was a defining one for Templeton, and one he’d never forget.
“One of the biggest thrills of my life was performing the inaugural show of the musical,” Templeton said while describing the surreal experience.
"We were still waiting for my wardrobe to be finished for the tour and I actually got to wear some of Conway’s old suits. I wore these custom wigs they made for me out in LA. I was singing his songs and hearing people react to them the way they must have reacted to him. In a way, it was like getting a chance to literally walk in the shoes of one of my musical heroes.”
In addition to covers of classic Conway Twitty songs, he also released a memorable cover of the Passenger hit “Let Her Go” in 2014. Templeton has released two albums and charted numerous singles such as "Country Boys for Life", "I Could Be the One","Sing That Song Again", and “Ball Cap.”
