Robert Saxy Richard will be this week’s artist performing at Polk Outdoor Stage in Leesville. He will be the second performer in the City of Leesville’s outdoor concert series.
Richard will be bringing the sounds of smooth jazz to downtown Leesville starting at 6:30 p.m.
While Richard will be in Leesville on Friday night, his life as a professional musician has taken him around the world.
Richard has performed in Belize and Honduras as well as in Switzerland at the International Blues Festival. He is a saxophonist/vocalist with Major Handy and The Louisiana Blues Band and also with Zydeco legend Mr. Corey Ledet.
Richard is a Jennings native and an Army Veteran. Entering the service in 1990, Richard was enlisted until 2000 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. His highest rank achieved was Captain (0-3).
Richard retired with almost 18 years of both active duty time with multiple units and reserve time with the 256th Infantry Brigade. He served in Iraq as an Infantry Platoon Leader, from October 2004 to October 2005.
He was wounded in combat earning Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star and The Combat Infantry Badge.
He returned home to take command of the unit he deployed overseas with and later retired as an instructor/cadre at Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Camp Ball, La, under the 199th Leadership Regiment.
Since retirement, Richard has returned back to his musical background as a professional musician. Richard has taken on aspirations of acting and is pursuing film.
He has been featured in several films and series to include: Pure Country 3, NCIS, and in a featured role with Sean Penn on The First.
Every Friday in April 2019 at 6:30 p.m. Leesville’s downtown will feature music and food at the outdoor amphitheater stage that once was the Polk indoor theater. The stage is located at the corner of 4th Street and Texas Street. There are two more concerts left in the series.
