Up and coming MMA fighter Nicko Commissiong is set to make his professional debut on June 15th at Bayou Fighting Championship 38 at the Youngsville Sports Complex in Lafayette.
He boasts an impressive amateur record with seven wins and four losses.
Commissiong commented on his upcoming debut and expressed his excitement for the next chapter in his career. “My pro debut means a lot to me. It is like when you win your first amateur title it takes a while to sink in.”
He trains at Performance Evolution in Lake Charles with Josh Quayhagen. In preparation for his pro debut, he also trained with Zach O’Quin for strength and conditioning. To cap it all off he also has been receiving Crossfit training with Ultimate Fighting Championship Veteran Tim Credeur.
Local fans will remember Commissiong’s impressive showing at the D’Town Beatdown MMA event at the Beauregard Parish Covered arena back in March. He squared off against Leesville fighter Spencer Kerse and won in an impressive fashion.
His next opponent is Yadier “The Cuban Problem” DelValle. Delvalle has a 4-0 amateur record with the majority of his victories coming via submission. Commissiong believes that having more amateur fights gives him the advantage in the upcoming fight.
“The way I see it, I’ve got more experience. I’ve learned so much from all my fights,” Commissiong said. “I’m thankful for my wins and losses, both brought me to where I am now.”
Commissiong described his fighting style and gave a preview of what fans can expect in his upcoming fight.
“I push the pace when I’m fighting. Most of my fights go the distance,” Commissiong said. “However, I’ve been working hard on finishing off my opponents faster. I have a well-rounded fighting style that sets an exciting pace for the fans. I like to throw some big strikes, but I can also get on the ground and grapple.”
