The Rock the Yacht 2019 Tour is coming to the Golden Nugget Casino Resort on August 17 in Lake Charles. The tour showcases bands associated with “yacht rock”, a soft rock genre popular in the 70’s and 80’s.

One of the featured bands that will be performing live in concert is Ambrosia. The band is best known for their hits such as “How Much I Feel,” and “Biggest Part of Me”, and drummer Burleigh Drummond spoke to the Beauregard Daily News and expressed his excitement for the upcoming show.

“I run out of words telling people how much fun it is to be with all these artists from the same era,” Drummond said. Our era was truly a golden era. Ambrosia loves to do our own show, but this is really nice because it is like a homecoming, and it’s fantastic.”

The Rock The Yacht 2019 tour includes many other artists such as Looking Glass (“Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl), Stephen Bishop (“On and On”), Walter Egan (“Magnet and Steel”), John Ford Coley (“I’d Really Love to See You Tonight”), and Peter Beckett (“Baby Come Back).

Drummond noted that the fans are still just as excited, which means the world to him. He jokingly said the crowd’s excitement is comparable to “feeding a kid too much sugar.”

He also expressed how much he still enjoys touring. “Touring is fun,” he said. “I’m a little privileged because my wife plays keyboards in the band. I feel lucky that we both have the opportunity to travel together.”

Drummond would compare what it was like touring during Ambrosia’s heyday to what touring is like today. “Back in the 70’s you were on a bus for six months,” he said. “You could really get lost out there. At this age I think we can appreciate where we are and the fact that people want to see us. We still do about 70 dates a year, and we fly for the most part. It’s not like the old days where we had to haul our own equipment around.”

He capped off the interview with a closing message for fans interested in the show. “If you really want to have a good time, come see this tour,” he said. “I guarantee that you’ll have a good time.”
