The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office (BPSO) has arrested a Pitkin man in connection with the theft of a camper that was stolen on April 4 from a residence in the 3200 block of Highway 112. Joe Lacaze was charged with one count of felony theft, and was subsequently booked into the BPSO Jail on April 7.

The BPSO released the following statement on their Facebook page after the arrest was made:

“During the investigation, detectives received information that the camper was potentially seen in Pitkin, La. Contact was made with a person of interest by the name of Joe Lacaze, of Pitkin. Lacaze admitted to taking the camper from the residence, where it was then transported to multiple locations. Later, the camper was located in the 1500 block of Highway 113 in Rapides Parish. It was recovered at that time.

BPSO would like to thank Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and all persons who assisted in the recovery and arrest pertaining to this investigation.”

If convicted, Lacaze potentially faces steep fines and a lengthy prison sentence. Louisiana Revised Statute 14:67 states:

“Whoever commits the crime of theft when the misappropriation or taking amounts to a value of one thousand five hundred dollars or more shall be imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than ten years, or maybe fined not more than three thousand dollars, or both.”
