Alton Arnold Herring

Funeral services for Alton Arnold Herring will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, 3255 Mt. Bethel Road Leesville, LA, with Reverends Morris Goins, Huey Haymon, Richard Lacour, and Les Comeaux officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Alton was born July 7, 1935, in Leesville, LA and passed away October 1, 2021, in Katy, TX at the age of 86. For 65 years, he worked in the wholesale sign supply business, and for the last 32 years, he owned Herring Sales Inc. in Houston, TX. He was a longtime member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and an avid hunter. He enjoyed hunting turkey, quail, and doves, but hunting deer was his passion. Alton had a larger-than-life personality and left his mark on anyone who met him. He was a well respected gentleman and many sought his advice. Alton could also be the life of the party and loved to tell stories. Once you met him, you never forgot him.

Alton was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Herring; parents, John Arnold Herring and Gracie Haymon Herring; granddaughter, Krystal Naomi Herring; and great granddaughter, Elizabeth Hope Herring.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Yolanda Herring of Kingwood, TX; sons, Robert Alton Herring of College Station, TX, Raymond Edward Herring and wife Becky of Natchitoches, LA, and Russell David Herring and wife Del Ann of Rosepine, LA; stepson, Gilbert Muniz of Kingwood, TX; stepdaughter, Yvonne Scarborough and husband Craig of Katy, TX; grandchildren, Regina Talbot and husband Matt, Robyn Ketchum and husband James, Rachel McKeand and husband Travis, Jared Herring and wife Megan, Justin Herring and wife Heather, Jace Herring and wife Shawnah, Amanda Wilder and husband George, Jessica Johnson and husband Galen, Dustin Herring, Amiee Peavey and husband Joseph, Allison Pace and husband Jacobie, and Michael Johnson; step grandchildren, Rose and Owen Scarborough; thirty-one great grandchildren; brother, John Elton Herring of Leesville; sisters, LaVerne Railey of Deer Park TX and LaVene Marze of Leesville, LA; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jared Herring, Jace Herring, Justin Herring, Dustin Herring, Craig Scarborough, and Owen Scarborough.
