Effective July 31, 2020 after 28 years as Director of Helping Hands Storefront, Modie Phillips will retire.  Her venture began in 1992 with 64 families receiving food monthly.

The Ministry continued to grow into several programs.  The programs included Worship Services, Clothes Center, Home and Crisis Center, English As A Second Language, School Supplies Distribution and Shop  With A Cop Christmas For Children.

The 60 volunteers who serve at Helping Hands Storefront in the ministry to which God has called them are the heart of the ministry.

The Missions and Ministries Department of the Louisiana  Baptist Convention honored Modie in 2008 for having served as Director of Helping Hands Storefront for 16 years.  She was also honored with a certificate of appreciation by the State of Louisiana in 2017 for serving the people of Vernon Parish for 25 years.

Modie’s departing words are “It has been a privilege and honor to serve as Helping Hands Storefront Director.  I will miss my coworkers and the many people that I have come to love as we have served them over the years.  I know God will continue to bless this mission as He has in the past years”.
