Livestock owners affected by Hurricane Laura can request help with rebuilding by applying for assistance through the LSU AgCenter.

Metal panels are wrapped around a damaged gate at Sweet Lake in Calcasieu Parish. The LSU AgCenter is accepting applications to help livestock producers obtain donated fencing and other supplies to rebuild.

Hay, feed, fencing material and other supplies have been donated by benefactors in Louisiana and surrounding states.

The application can be found online at www.lsuagcenter.com/applicationforassistance.

Kurt Guidry, LSU AgCenter Southwest Region director, said the completed application forms must be returned by Sept. 30.

“At that time, a committee will review the applications, and you will be contacted to arrange pickup if donations are available,” Guidry said.

“The Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association, the Louisiana Farm Bureau, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the LSU AgCenter are working together to help organize and secure donations and to ensure that these donations are distributed in a timely, organized and equitable manner,” he added. “The needs of our livestock industry are significant right now, and these donations will only go so far. But it is a start to help the rebuilding process.”

Applications can be mailed, emailed or dropped off at LSU AgCenter offices in Calcasieu, Cameron, Beauregard and Vernon parishes.

Applications can be hand-delivered at drop boxes in front of the Calcasieu AgCenter Office at 7101 Gulf Highway, Lake Charles; the Cameron office at 10098 Gulf Highway, Lake Charles; the Beauregard AgCenter Office, 203 West St., DeRidder; or the Vernon Parish AgCenter office in the parish courthouse at 215 4th St., Leesville.
