LEESVILE - Make it six in a row.

The Leesville Wampus Cats opened the home portion of their season on Thursday night with a convincing 42-24 victory over the Class 5A Pineville Rebels, winning this matchup for the sixth consecutive time.

Leesville improved to 1-1 on the season with the victory, while Pineville dropped to 1-1.

The Wampus Cats jumped out to an early lead when Layne Self reeled in 20-yard TD reception from Jacob Mount on a fourth-down wheel route. Caden Catron booted the PAT through the uprights for a 7-0 lead.

The Rebels responded with a drive culminating in an 11-yard touchdown run by Andrew Frazier. However, the Cats were able to block the PAT, preserving their lead, 7-6.

Leesville appeared to be on another scoring drive when Caleb Gallashaw broke around right end near midfield. However, the ball was punched out of his grasp and was scooped up by Ashton Mollette, who raced 49 yards to the house for the touchdown. But the 2-point attempt failed, keeping the score in Pineville's favor, 12-7.

But the Cats would battle back, behind the renewed vigor of Gallashaw.

Gallashaw scored his first two touchdowns of the season on successive drives in the second quarter, getting into the end zone from 1 and 4 yards out to help Leesville take a 21-12 lead.

Pineville responded with a big play as Frazier caught a 71-yard TD pass from Nate DarDar to trim the deficit to 21-18.

But Leesville scored on the final offensive play of the first half when Khyrstian Hoffpauir caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Mount for a 28-18 advantage at the break.

The Wampus Cats extended their lead in the third period with a 49-yard td scamper from Gallashaw for a 35-18 lead.

Pineville mounted a scoring drive in response as DarDar found Cody Riggs on a 25-yard scoring strike. But once again, the Rebels failed on the conversion, trailing the Cats, 35-24.

Leesville sealed the deal in the fourth when Gallashaw scored his fourth TD of the game on a 9-yard scamper around right end for a 42-24 win.

The Cats had a very balanced offensive performance on the evening with 429 total yards, 200 coming on the ground and 229 through the air.

Gallashaw had 18 carries for 98 yards and four TDs, while adding 24 more yards on five receptions. Self finished with 59 yards rushing, along with three catches for 105 yards and a TD.

Mount completed 16-of-30 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Defensively, Frank Ford, Jr. had 14 tackles, including three for losses and a sack, while Jaymeion Henderson had an interception and 13 tackles.

Chris Tyler finished with 10 tackles, while Christian Sage added seven tackles, three of which were for losses, including a sack.

The Wampus Cats also held Pineville's ground game in check, allowing negative-3 yards.

DarDar was 21-of-36 on the game for 278 yards and two scores, finding Frazier four times for 111 yards and a TD. Frazier added a rushing touchdown.

Leesville will play host to the DeQuincy Tigers next Friday, while Pineville is on the road again, this time against Caldwell.
