Tommy Poe Memorial Roping results

The Tommy Poe Memorial Roping was held May 1 at the Vernon Parish Fairgrounds.

Money raised was donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital to help children fighting cancer. 

High money Saddle winner Huel Willis

There was 198 entered teams for #11 roping, and 360 entered teams for #8 roping. 

2nd place Russell Taylor & Dustin Johnson

Family members of the late Tommy Poe, a detective for the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO), held the roping event in his memory. Poe passed away in May of 2020 after a horseback riding accident.

 "The family of Tommy Poe would like to thank all of the ropers who came out to support the 1st Annual Tommy Poe Memorial Roping. We would also like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers, donors and anyone who played a part in making this event a huge success! We thank God for blessing this event so that children in need will be helped in memory of Tommy. Proceeds from this event will go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and other children and youth programs throughout the local community." stated the family.

Roping winners: #11 Roping with a total of 198 entered teams - 1st Place Huel Willis & D'Wain Rollins, 2nd place Russell Taylor & Dustin Johnson. Saddle winner D’Wain Rollins. 3rd-6th placings: Kase Busby with Dustin Johnson, Zane Birkicht with Ty Aymond, Justin Robinson with D’Wain Rollins and Justin Robinson with Jacup Dixon.

Roping winners: #8 Roping with a total of 360 entered teams: 1st Place Chance Birkicht & Blade Driggers, 2nd Place Huel Willis & Kolby L. Johnson.  Saddle winner Huel Willis. 3rd-10th placings: Huel Willis with David Delaney, CJ Dee with Travis Howell, Katie Fuqua with Huel Willis, Zach Harper with Nathan Gilcrease, Dusty King with Travis Watkins, Willie Lenhart with Joe Rodriguez, Mickey Tankersley with Rod Watkins and Damien Lavery with Colton Summers.
