Ducote’s 4 TDs leads Rosepine to huge win over EBHS

DRY CREEK – Grant Ducote bulled his way to four rushing touchdowns, while Ethan Frey threw for 172 yards and two scores as the Rosepine Eagles knocked off the homestanding East Beauregard Trojans on Friday evening.

With the win, Rosepine, who will host Sacred Heart of Ville Platte next week, improved to 1-0 on the season, while East Beauregard, who has an open date due to Elton High School’s team folding, is 0-1.

The Eagles jumped on top in the first quarter when Frey connected with Bryant Merriwether on a 28-yard scoring toss. The Eagles added the 2-point conversion when Frey found an open Jake Smith in the endzone, giving Rosepine an 8-0 lead.

East Beauregard responded with an 8-yard touchdown run from Jordan Wilkerson to cut the deficit to two points, 8-6. But Ducote scored the first of his four touchdowns on a 7-yard blast a little later in the frame. With Frey completing the conversion pass to Cole Donahue, the Eagles were ahead, 16-6.

Rosepine continued to steamroll in the second quarter, getting a 4-yard TD run from Ducote and a touchdown pass from Frey to Donahue covering 40 yards, opening up a 28-6 lead at the break.

Ducote slammed the door on the Trojans in the second half with touchdown runs of 13 and 4 in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. Ducote also added a 2-point conversion run, while Smith tacked on his first extra-point kick of the season, accounting for the final tally, 43-6.

Ducote had 18 carries for 179 yards and four touchdowns, while Frey completed 9-0f-17 passes for 172 yards and two scores. He found Donahue on four occasions for a total of 119 yards.

East Beauregard got 62 yards on 13 carries from Jacob Gimnich.
