Lady Eagles decimate Delhi Charter
ROSEPINE - Third-ranked Rosepine (26-3) made it look easy.
The Lady Eagles got a perfect game from Chloe Bennett, while Calyn Brister hit her school-record tying 12th home run of the season as they hammered No. 30 Delhi Charter into submission in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs on Monday, 18-0.
It took just three innings to get the job done. Rosepine advanced to a second-round matchup against No. 14 Pine. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday at Rosepine with an admission of $8.
Bennett fanned eight of the nine batters she faced in the contest, eclipsing the 300-strikeout plateau for the season. She retired all nine batters she faced.
Brister had only one hit in the contest, but it was a three-run homer as she drove in four runs on the evening and scored three times.
Jenna Marler added a double and a triple with three RBIs, while Barbra Ann White, Ashlynn Smith and Shelby Deason each collected two hits and two RBIs in the win.
Rosepine scored 11 runs in the first inning and seven more times in the second, not needing to bat in the third due to the 15-run mercy rule.
