Rosepine "Freys" some Gators in playoff win

Rosepine junior Ethan Frey had two home runs, including a grand slam, while driving in eight runs in a 20-5 win on Friday over Delhi Charter.

ROSEPINE - Rosepine had a little cookout Friday night as they had some "Freyed" Gators on the menu.

Junior Ethan Frey hit two home runs and drove in eight runs, while teammate Grant Ducote had three hits and five RBIs as the second-seeded Eagles down the Delhi Charter Gators on Friday in Game 1 of a best-of-3 Class 2A regional round series.

Delhi Charter drew first blood, scoring twice in the top of the first, but Rosepine answered quickly. The Eagles loaded the bases, which brought Frey to the plate. He promptly blasted the ball out of the park for a grand slam and a 4-2 Rosepine lead.

The Gators cut the gap to one with a run in the second, but Rosepine added two more to the board for a 6-3 advantage.

Delhi Charter added two more runs to board to get back to within a run, 6-5, in the top the third.

However, Rosepine put the game out of reach in the bottom of the frame, scoring 14 runs as Frey hit a two-run homer and a two-run single as the Eagles pulled away.

Casey Tilley worked three innings for the win on the mound, giving up five runs on five hits with one strikeout.

Frey went 3-for-3 with two homers, three runs scored and eight RBIs, while Ducote was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and five RBIs. Jake Smith had a trio of hits, four runs scored and two RBIs, while Cole Donahue had a double and two RBIs.

George Purvis took the loss pitching for the Gators, although he had two hits and an RBI. Kameron Wicker had a hit and two RBIs.
