LONGVILLE - You couldn't asked for a better performance.

The second-ranked South Beauregard Golden Knights looted and plundered the No. 18 Kaplan Pirates on Thursday in the opening game of a Class 3A regional series.

South Beauregard has a chance to close out the Pirates in Game 2, which is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Golden Knights set the tone early, grabbing a 5-0 lead after one inning, which grew to 8-0 after three runs in the second.

SBHS doubled its run total in the third inning, taking a commanding 16-0 advantage.

Another three runs found the South Beauregard side of the scoreboard in the fourth as the Golden Knights rolled to the easy win.

Britton Coleman worked three hitless innings, striking out five. He also had two hits, including a triple, with a run scored and two RBIs.

Emery Laird added a pair of hits and two runs scored for the Golden Knights, while Austin Felice and Carter Caraway each had a hit and three RBIs. Bryce Jensen had a double and an RBI in the win.

Kaplan managed to secure on hit in the game off of one of three relief pitchers for South Beauregard.
